‘Saint Columba’s Day’ Festival

The Laa Columb Killey festival that has been celebrated in Arbory for more than 100 years. Held on the Thursday nearest the anniversary of the date St Columba died.  The festival is a fantastic occasion for all the family to enjoy with exhibitions, sports, attractions, arts and crafts, competitions for everyone to get involved with and fantastic refreshments in the Tea Tent!

Entry to the festival is £2 which includes a copy of the programme. Admission to the Tea Tent is £6 for adults and £3 for children, and Tea Tent tickets can be purchased at the entrance gate.

Events on the field begin at 2:45 with sports from 4pm, the auction at 7:15pm and on Friday, the Tarroo Marro Ceilidh Band 6:30 to 9pm. ‘Off field’ events include the Sunday Service at Arbory Parish Church, Judging of the children’s fancy dress competition and the LCK golf competition between residents of Arbory and Colby at Rowany Golf Club. ‘On Field’ – 28th June 2018

9:00am – Fancy Dress – Theme is ‘The Last 100 Years 1918-2018’ – assemble at Arbory School for Judging

2:45pm – Procession from outside the Parish Hall, heading westwards past the Vicarage Close entrance and then into the Field opposite Arbory Primary School
3:00pm – Official Opening by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, Sir Richard Gozney
Crowning of Arbory Festival Princess – Poppy Irving
Country Dancing
End of Ceremony

‘Off Field’ Activities

Laa Columb Killey Golf Competition – Date TBA
The LCK golf competition between residents of Ballabeg and residents of Colby takes place at Rowany Golf Club on 16th June. Organised by Jim Cringle. Contact Rowany Golf Club (834108 or www.rowanygolfclub.com) for a tee time.

Laa Columb Killey Morning Service – Sunday 24th June
At 10:30 am on Sunday 18th June at Arbory Parish Church, all are welcome

Join In!

If you can bake a cake, grow some fine spuds have an artistic flair, there are Competition Classes for everyone to join in. Simply get your entry to the field in the morning of the day (8am – 12). The exhibition tent is a really popular attraction and many people leave their entries to be auctioned off at 7:15pm with proceeds going to charity.

If you or your children are sporty,  join in the fun with the sports. There’s lots of running and fun races from 4pm plus an adult’s 5.5 mile ‘marathon’

There’s also exhibitions, bouncy castles and a coconut shy to enjoy on the field.

There are loads of refreshments on the field but one highlight is the tea tent that offers freshly made sandwiches and cakes with teas and coffees and is a fantastic atmosphere and place to catch up with faces old and new.

Competition Classes

Classes include flower arrangements, fruit, vegetables, baking, jams, eggs, wine, knitting, crafts, painting, photography, handwriting and the LCK special fruit cake recipe.
